Product Overview

The Wedge Water Filter Tube (Johnson filter pipe) is a cylindrical filtration device composed of V-shaped winding wire and welded support strips—its V-shaped wire has a trapezoidal cross-section (top width 0.8mm, bottom width 2.0mm), which enhances load-bearing capacity while minimizing water flow resistance. Its continuous gap structure provides superior sand control and water permeability, making it a core component in groundwater extraction, irrigation, and industrial water treatment systems. Unlike punched plate filters with discontinuous holes, this tube’s continuous gaps avoid localized high flow velocity and sand scouring, protecting well casings from damage.

Product Features

Anti-Sand Design: V-section gaps prevent sand intrusion under high water pressure, reducing well clogging by 70%. In desert area irrigation wells (sand content 50-100 g/m³), it trapped 98% of sand particles (>0.1mm), maintaining well yield at 80% of initial capacity after 5 years (vs. 30% for traditional filters). The gap’s inward-narrowing design (outer gap 0.2mm, inner gap 0.5mm) blocks sand while allowing water to pass freely.

High Open Area: 25-40% porosity ensures 10-50 m³/h flow rates per tube, exceeding punched plate filters (15-25% porosity). A 6-meter-long filter tube with 35% porosity achieves a flow rate of 40 m³/h in groundwater wells (static water level 50m), meeting the water demand of a 100-acre farm. Porosity can be adjusted based on well yield—high-yield wells use 40% porosity to maximize water extraction.

Geological Adaptability: Customizable gap widths (0.1-2.0mm) for different soil conditions. For sandy soil (particle size 0.1-0.5mm), a 0.15mm gap is recommended; for loamy soil (0.5-2.0mm particles), a 0.8mm gap is suitable. In karst areas with limestone gravel, a 2.0mm gap prevents gravel entry while maintaining water flow.

Longevity: 316L stainless steel construction resists corrosion for 15+ years in underground water. In coastal areas with high chloride content (1000-2000 mg/L), 904L stainless steel variants extend service life to 20+ years. The tube’s external anti-corrosion coating (epoxy resin) further reduces electrochemical corrosion in acidic groundwater (pH < 6.0).

Applications

Agriculture: Irrigation systems in 50,000-acre farm projects. In a wheat farm in the Great Plains, 2000 filter tubes were installed in 50 irrigation wells, providing 10,000 m³/day of filtered water—this reduced drip irrigation emitter clogging by 60%, increasing wheat yield by 12%.

Municipal Water: Well water pre-filtration for urban water supply. A city with 200,000 residents used 500 filter tubes in its groundwater supply system, removing 95% of turbidity (from 20 NTU to < 1 NTU) and reducing the load on subsequent sand filters by 40%.

Oil & Gas: Produced water treatment in offshore platforms. In an offshore oil field, the filter tubes treated produced water (oil content 500-1000 mg/L) to remove sand and solids, protecting centrifugal separators and reducing maintenance costs by $200,000/year.

FAQ

Q: What backwash method is recommended?

A: Air-water combined backwashing at 3-5 bar pressure restores 95% of flow capacity. The process involves 1 minute of air scouring (5 bar pressure) to loosen impurities, followed by 2 minutes of water flushing (3 bar pressure) to remove debris. For heavily clogged tubes, repeat the cycle 2-3 times—avoid single long-duration backwashing, which may damage the V-wire structure.

Q: Can it be used in saltwater environments?

A: 904L stainless steel variants withstand seawater corrosion. 904L contains high levels of nickel (24%) and molybdenum (4.5%), forming a dense oxide film in seawater (salinity 35‰) that reduces corrosion rate to < 0.01 mm/year. It is suitable for desalination pretreatment wells and offshore aquaculture systems.

Q: What’s the maximum operating depth?

A: It performs reliably at depths up to 200 meters. At this depth, the external water pressure (20 bar) is within the tube’s pressure resistance limit (30 bar). For ultra-deep wells (200-500 meters), thickened support strips (3mm vs. 2mm standard) are used to enhance structural strength, preventing collapse.

Q: How to connect multiple filter tubes in a well?

A: Use stainless steel coupling sleeves with O-ring seals (EPDM material) for connection. The sleeves have internal threads that match the tube’s external threads, ensuring a leak-proof joint. For vertical wells, connect tubes end-to-end to reach the target depth; for horizontal wells, use T-junctions to distribute water to multiple laterals.
